Hello and welcome to Debt Free Forties! I created this personal finance and lifestyle blog to hold myself and my family accountable with our finances, track our progress, and help others find motivation with their financial situation.
My name is Tana (rhymes with Donna) and I’m married with two kids. Even though I’ve read a lot of personal finance books, scoured tons of blogs, and watched a lot of famous personal finance celebrities, I found myself quickly nearing forty and still working to get rid of our debt. Still. I considered myself to be very knowledgeable in the financial department, and yet – here we are, with over $26,000 in debt!
As soon as we finally buckled down to decided to kick debt out once and for all in January 2017, Murphy showed up (as Dave Ramsey would say). My husband’s job was eliminated at the company he worked at for nine years. After the initial panic wore off, we were even more dedicated to following through on our debt free goals so that we are never in this position EVER again!
I work as a web designer/developer from home full-time and have always found myself following the entrepreneur lifestyle by picking up freelance and finding side gigs. I graduated college for the second time in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree and still have about $8500 left in student loans (and I know I’m very much not alone in that matter!).
There are a lot of people out there that thought they’d be further along financially in their 30s and 40s. I’m one of them. I hope you find some use of the content here, and know you’ve found a friend you can talk finances with. I look forward to interacting with you all and to finally becoming debt free!
